I grew up in the suburbs of the South Bay in the Bay Area. I learned to bike at a young age and I got into BMX bikes and mountain bikes. Though I loved to bike, it was always only a recreational hobby for me. I moved to Berkeley to attend college and while I was there, the bike world opened itself up to me.
I learned to not only see cycling as a recreational activity, but as it pertains to one’s lifestyle. Not only am I passionate about bicycles themselves, but I am passionate about bicycle advocacy work. Getting more people on bikes is always a good thing. I worked for the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition for a year as a programs intern. My task was to raise awareness in motorists of cyclists in San Francisco, particularly taxi-cab drivers and truck drivers. After living in the East Bay for 4 years now, seeing projects like Bicycle Boulevards in Berkeley and Oakland make me really believe that bicycles are a very viable form of transportation.
Just like you, I am constantly learning more about bikes and bicycle technology everyday. I go through phases when I’m really into a certain type of bike whether it would be a minimalistic fixed-gear, touring bike, randonneuring bike or a road bike. When I get an idea in my mind, I pursue it and dream of wild ideas of how to build it.
Some of my aspirations in life have to relate to bicycles, but a lot of others do not. While unemployed, I’ve discovered that I really enjoy working with my hands. I would really love to learn how to build my own frames some day and design and craft furniture. Some longer term goals include opening up a coffeehouse and just being a good husband.
Anyway, thanks for reading all this about me. I hope you enjoy the website and learn a few new things with me.
